Not bad but it could use some more darks for contrast, here & there. It's good overall. Your looking cute certainly doesn't hurt.

Very nice. And traditional...hard to find trad stuff on NG. Not too many of us here, eh?

This girl must have problems whenever she sits down to eat, not to mention getting breathing room on a flight...

Not "insurgent naan"?...

First I'd quickly check the surroundings for cameras, drones, fishing line attached to the piece, or anything else suspicious. Secondly, if the nearby environment is clean I would look it over without touching it (could be bugged or boobytrapped). If _that_ didn't show anything, then I'd pick it up & take it somewhere...not home, at least not right away.

But seriously, it's good but the background is too bright. If it were blurred a bit more & darkened, the gun would stand out more. I like it, though.

Askapy responds:

What a great comment!

Okay, thank you very much for pointing out the bright background. It’s always good to receive feedback that helps you improve in future drawings.

I’ve noted the advice for the next weapon I draw. Thanks!

Finally, something other than the usual T & A. I appreciate this as much for the change of pace as anything else...it can be tough to find anything else on NG.

Can't comment on the accuracy since I am not an expert on German mechanized artillery. But it looks damn cool.

Askapy responds:

Thank you for the comment, I really appreciate it! I'm new to Newgrounds. I saw that this site was about art and thought it would be a good place for my drawings.

Don't worry, any comment is valid, especially those with questions.

It's a 70-ton German heavy tank, developed at the end of World War II. It was supposed to be one of the many "miracle weapons" that Germany developed to try to win the war, but this tank proved to be too much for Germany. It had good armor and firepower, but it was too slow, expensive to produce, suffered from numerous mechanical failures, and consumed too many resources from an already defeated Germany. This tank was a luxury that Germany could not afford.

Although, as you say, it looks great. I'm glad you liked it.

Your inking is actually better in a couple areas...less full-on black areas (those should be used judiciously) & more lines describing forms. Excelente. Also, props for starting off with the short history lesson. The kids need to know it didn't start with smart phones last year!

StrangInk responds:

I was consciously trying to use less spot blacks on this chapter. I’m going back and forth with what I want to do with that. I love a strong contrast on a page. I’ve been looking at the very different but both very noir inks of Guy Davis and Frank Miller a lot

Very cool. For someone who's "never drawn...really much at all" you're off to a hell of a start. The style is perhaps slightly too cartoony for the plot, but it works. Your real strength is in your storytelling, & perhaps in your worldbuilding. PAYDRT is as much a commentary on our hypermediated gig-centric society as anything else, & I love it. _So_ relevant. Decent inking skills, too.

Cool. How do you sell your art? On Instagram or...?

DonaldLPatten responds:

I sell them at art markets and at galleries in Maine

It's cute in a weird sort of way.

Obviously it is one of a lineup of characters followed by a fandom I've never been part of.

Kudos for painting the piece in trad media. There aren't nearly enough of us old-school artists on here...am just glad to see another one.

Riger44 responds:

Its a fun design!

Yeah I agree more peeps should do trad its a much more engaging experience, despite all the advantages of digi it just doesn't hit the same.

Artist in various media (mostly traditional), craftsman & general DIYer. I make no guarantee of regular posting--work will go up as circumstances permit.
