In other news, there isn't any... But seriously, the move continues. Been working on other stuff also...not much time left for that. Aside from two current projects, everything else is on hold until I get to the land. Once I'm there I will be busy so don't expect regular posts. Got maybe three things left to put up before April.
@ShadenLines yo, i did notice that the sp500 did fall a bit, luckly right at the beginning of the month when i get my payment from the pizza parlor, so i did buy a bit of IVVB11 (the brazilian way to invest on the sp500). Also did notice my brazilian assets did rise a bit (some did'nt rise but get less damage lol)
It looks like trump will put usa in somekind of commercial war with we communists (china, brazil, russia south africa, india, etc, etc)
China's government is communist. As is Venezuela's, if I read it right. The rest? Eh..."Second-Worldist". 😄 Or maybe Third-Worldist in the case of African countries.
Yes, we are getting into trade wars with China, Canada & probably a couple European nations. Not a good idea at all, but then Trump doesn't listen to anyone once he's got an idea in his head.
@ShadenLines i don't think it's exactly a bad idea, it's true that war and fights are no good, but some fights are necessary, trump is always saying "make america great again", those kind of thing are necessary if america really wants to keep it's imperialism. China, russia and india did advance too much, if america keep it's arms folded and keep trying to "live in peace" with them america will eat their dust. It would be great if every nation could just live in peace and work together as everybody friends, but unfortunately life is not like that.
The same with brazil, if brazil stopped being so kind with those bigger nations and started taking it's business real serious (develop it's industries, get some nuclear weapons, audit some debts with international banks, etc) bad things would happen to brazil too
There is some truth to your reply, but I still say our trade wars are a bad idea. The reason is we are not in a position to wage them. Sure, we've long had import-export imbalances with certain countries. But that is an issue you cannot fix by slapping tariffs on imported goods willy-nilly. It has to be gradually whittled down, with finesse. The correct response would be to encourage our industries to inshore our manufacturing first (including tax breaks & penalties), & rebuild our industrial base. Once we have that, _then_ would be the time to start hiking tariffs _selectively_, depending on the good/material in question & where it's coming from. Trump can't do any of that because he doesn't have the patience nor the focus.
China will remain a serious problem for the foreseeable future, yes. We should've implemented a containment policy when we had the chance. That chance passed a while ago. As for Russia, if it weren't for Chinese (& lately North Korean) support & its oil & gas sales, it wouldn't be a great power at all.
@ShadenLines yo, one thing those countries like china, north korea, russia, venezuela, etc have in advantage towards countries like usa is that they have one leader for many years, putin been in russia for like 12 years, xin jin ping in china around that too, so they can plan things long term and take it easy. While an american president has like 4 years to make it's plans and put it on practice, so i think trump have this on mind, so he gotta try to rush some things
Yes....that is something I've thought about more than once. You described one of the unspoken drawbacks of representative democracy. We're not supposed to discuss it but the fact is when you hold elections, practically none of the successful candidates look further than the next election...they make decisions based on what they think will raise their chances of winning the next race, as opposed to what is best for the nation's future. They HAVE to. Because a politician who loses an election is a failed politician in many (if not most) cases. (S)He can become a lobbyist if (s)he has legal expertise or MAYbe do something else for a living, but politically speaking, (s)he has failed. There isn't a career pol alive who does not know that. So their moves & plans are all short-term.
