The polar vortex is typically circular and is most defined in the stratosphere. It is a lot more distorted in the troposphere.
Sometimes the polar vortex breaks up into pieces and this is usually a precursor to cold snap.
The link above shows the tropospheric circulation and you can make out a pair of boobs near the North Pole. One piece hit the North America at that time and brought record snowfall to the south.

It happens a couple of times each winter. Often it breaks up into 2 pieces and resemble female breasts. The other times it is divided into 3 pieces.
