The president does not have a lot of control. If a recession is about to happen, it will happen regardless of who is in the White House.

I look at the long time horizon (say 30 years). Even in the worst times, the stock market never fails to generate long term profits.

Trade policies can have an effect, as they can impose/revoke tariffs on imported goods & materials. If a foreign nation objects to our policy then it can retaliate with restrictions of its own, as China did during Trump's first term. All those actions reverberate through the economy of the nation that takes them. Such policies are not created by a sitting president alone but he can & does have considerable influence on them. I get what you're saying, though...when it comes to our economy, I look at what the Fed is doing more than anything else.

My time horizon used to be around 30 years too, but it's doubtful I will live for 30 years from today. Given my family history, a period of 20 to 23 years from now makes more sense.

You are 'way' too money-savvy for NG. Are you 'sure' you are an artist? ;)

I think I am, but for all I know I might just be a hack... It's a disturbing thought, but still possible.

My late father was an artist too (mostly a cartoonist) & nearly got a master's degree in economics, so it's not impossible!

@ShadenLines From what I can tell, 'imposter syndrome' is something that's completely normal among artists. :)

For what it's worth, I enjoy how unusual the art you share with Newgrounds is. It's 'good', but it's just 'not for me'. At least not enough to further bloat my 4(?) month backlog of 'art yet to appreciate' with it.
I also liked the Thomas Carlyle-quote you picked.

Thanks. I appreciate your honest opinion...seriously, it's better than most compliments I hear/read.

Although no one has said so, I suspect one reason is because I don't use a lot of color in most of ny work. People like colorful things; it has always been so. Bnw illustration in graphite/charcoal does have a following (look at Jono Dry on YT, for example) but it just doesn't pull in the kind of audience that full-color work gets.

@ShadenLines I suspect compliments mean more when they don't come from people who are "fans". ;)

I think you are applying 'way' too much logic to people's tastes. To switch genres for a moment: 'Gangnam Style' was super-successful, but if you ask me it was 'shit'. The most memorable thing about it was its popularity and that people used it in their short, slapdash internet meme-video a lot.
Sure: You might appeal to a 'broader audience' with finer lines, colors, and motives that send the viewers hands wandering, but I think artists do their best work when they draw what they themselves like best. (I'll see if I can dig out a link for a good counter-example, but I can make no promises.)

There should be a "lemme think about that" emoji added to the list of reaction emojis for comments here. It would convey my response perfectly.

...it all comes back to the old decision faced by every artist sooner or later: do you work primarily for yourself, or for the audience? Put another way, is your motivation personal expression or fulfillment or are you strictly in it for the money & fame? IMHO the answer to that question is one of the factors that separates the true artists from the hacks. No doubt there are people out there who would disagree.

Also - Florida is the only place I've ever lived where you can get bit by mosquitoes--in November. Christ on a crutch.
